Gomashio brings out the best of the potato in this easy side dish. Hot, crispy potatoes dusted in nutty, salty goodness, these crave-able potatoes are perfect for a filling side or a afternoon snack!
For those of you looking for new ways to enjoy gomashio, look no further than these pan fried potatoes! I’ve been enjoying gomashio on as much as I can the past few days, and while it’s a great accompaniment to many dishes, sometimes simpler is better, and with no other flavors getting in the way, the gomashio really shines. It’s so delicious, it has quickly become one of my favorite filling snacks to make, especially since it’s even quicker to bring together than jagaimo mochi.
Just as satisfying as french fries but with less of the oil and hassle to make them, this dish is sure to hit the spot when your salty cravings kick in! Want to make them even lower calorie? You can pan steam them instead of using oil! I love cooking them in a little oil to help make the outside crispy, but you can add a tablespoon or so of water to the pot instead of oil and steam them covered with a lid for 15 minutes. Try them both ways and see which you prefer!
Recipe – Gomashio Potatoes:
– Cut the potato into a few large chunks.
– Add the oil in a small pot and place over medium high heat. Once hot, add the potato and let cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to help brown all the sides.
– Once the potato is easily pierced with a fork, it’s ready to eat! Add the gomashio to the pot and stir to coat.
– Serve while piping hot for best flavor! Although they are quite delicious at room temperature too.
