The Story

You can’t beat a classic, but you can make it better! And what’s better than a BLT? A Japanese BLT! Switch out the lettuce for some nori and you have a whole new flavor. Pair it with Lay’s new wasabi ginger potato chips, and lunch is served!

The first time I had a BLT was during the summer at my grandmother’s house. Of course, as a child, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich just could not be beat, but I she had a basketful of tomatoes just harvested from her garden, and we had to eat them. I will never forget just how delicious those tomatoes were, so whenever I eat a BLT, I always think of that day. My number one criteria for an amazing sandwich, fresh, fresh tomatoes.

I love a classic taste, but that doesn’t mean I’ll never mix it up! When I want a more Asian taste, I love mixing in a variety of Japanese ingredients to my sandwiches. Japanese mayo is a big one, but also wasabi, furikake, grilled tofu, shitake mushrooms, various seaweeds, really any ingredient can find its way into my cooking! And what better substitute for lettuce than nori?

With summer around the corner, I’m sure a lot of you might be growing some tomatoes, or at least a few! (They’re super easy to grow on your patio!) Instead of throwing them into salads or forgetting about them entirely, make sure you eat them when they’re at their peak! Try this sandwich with them and let me know what you think!
