Sesame Oil

Sesame oil, or “gomabura” (ごま油, ごまあぶら) is extracted from sesame seed. It has a delightful, nutty flavor that bring out a noticeable difference in flavor to many dishes. While not a frying oil, a little can be added to the oil while frying to impart a subtle nutty flavor.

It is a common ingredient to find in the asian section of a grocery store, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find. If you cannot find it, you can toast some sesame seeds in a skillet until fragrant, then grind with a mortar and pestle to add a similar flavor to the dish. This will add sesame seeds to the dish though, so it may change the texture!!
