White sauce, shrimp sauce, yum yum sauce, steakhouse sauce… Whatever you call it, you know you love it! This sweet and tangy sauce is a must for any Japanese steakhouse style meal, and it’s quick and easy to make!
While I’ve loved this sauce for many years, I still don’t know what the proper name for it is. Does anyone know the origins of this sauce? I’d love to learn it. I’ve heard it called many things, but whatever the name is, it’s always referring to the same thing: that rich and creamy sauce you drizzle over everything at a Japanese steakhouse! Because let’s face it, teppanyaki just isn’t the same without that creamy goodness. And because it just isn’t the same, a while ago I set out to find the perfect recipe to make at home.
I can’t tell you how many different variations of this recipe I’ve tried, because just like ginger dressing, every restaurant has their own version. What I’ve learned in my experimentation is, the type of mayonnaise you use can make or break the flavor! Don’t skip out on this one! Get the good stuff, and the flavor will come through. If you can get Japanese mayo, even better. And the secret ingredient that brings it all together? Peaches! That’s right! The natural sweetness of the peach blends perfectly with the tanginess of the mayonnaise. I’ve tried sugar and honey, and it was still good, but peaches makes it so much more delicious!
Of course, my recipe might be different than your favorite restaurant’s, but at least this will get you started. All you’ve got to do is put everything in a blender and blend! Just be sure to make it a little bit ahead of time, so the flavors can fully come together. I use it so much that I even use condiment bottles to store it in! I store a lot of my Japanese sauces in the bottles because I use them so much, it makes serving super easy! Keep it in the fridge, ready to go whenever the craving hits!
This recipe is good for about a week in the fridge. If you like a different version of this sauce, let me know what you like to mix in!
